Goan cuisine consists of regional foods popular in Goa, an Indian state located along India’s west coast on the shore of the Arabian Sea. Rice, seafood, coconut, vegetables, meat, bread, and local spices are some of the main ingredients in Goan cuisine. Use of kokum and vinegar is another distinct feature. seafood occupies its own prestigious position in the culinary landscape of the city.
Goan food is considered incomplete without fish.The classic bond between a Goan and the humble Fish is more than a mere tell-tale The fish thali is complete with nutritious benefits as fish is rich in calcium, low -fat high quality protein, and a great source of minerals such as iron ,zinc, iodine, magnesium and potassium
The coastal state Is blessed with an amazing variety of seafood and the best way to enjoy , is in the form of a thali and One of my favorite dish and it’s a staple food in every Goan household .
The goan fish thali is one which I will never be fed up of having , the rice with that special curry full of flavor and the reachado masala fish fry which you will never find anywhere else. The accompaniments of prawn balchao , kismoor , and sol kaddi add to the taste, all of which make this an extremely unique dish to eat. A normal thali cost around Rs.150 and a Special thali around Rs.400, available all days of the week.
Goa has many places where one Can try the authentic fish thali suggesting few like Ritz Classic, Girish Ranche Ghar,Tato’s Cafe ,Starlight and many more but for me the one prepared at home by my mom is the favorite and I have learned from her and making this thali on my own completely my mother felt very proud .
The joy of making on your own hits different though the taste might not be as good as the five star still you can enjoy a day being a kitchen star to your family . Speaking about my craving fish thali ,each item is a wholesome authentic symbol of Goan cuisine consisting of the tangy fish curry it was perfect in its tanginess and smooth consistency, the union of coconut, chilli and tirphal, made everyone at my home feel their tongue on fire but could managed to have it, and prawns balchao which I loved the most , kismoor( dry fish salad) combination of the dried prawns with fresh coconut is simply mouth-watering, Fried fish the most essential ingredient of the Goan fish thali It’s the heart of any fish thali , and the Sour-sweet, tangy sol kaddi is simply awesome to drink and great for digestion , it is prepared just with the kokum juice, chopped chilies, some garlic and finely chopped coriander and lastely fish thali also serves vegetables or salad to balance it all .
A Goan fish thali is 100% complete meal and a must try for everyone .
